As Wawasee Property Owners
Association celebrates its 55th anniversary, we still seek to be a
good neighbor in the greater Syracuse community in many ways.
"Neighbors", the WPOA
directory, is distributed to every emergency vehicle in the area. If
there’s an emergency, we want you to get help as fast as possible.
WPOA has helped to provide advanced life support training and
specialized equipment for local responders.
Safety on the lake is a high
priority for WPOA. We have long underwritten the volunteer Sheriff’s
Lake Patrol and network with the Enforcement Division of Indiana DNR
and other safety interests.
We encourage boating
education, be it Coast Guard, DNR, or Wawasee Yacht Club’s Junior
Sailing program.
We monitor water clarity and
water quality. We support the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation and
their wetlands acquisition program. We are represented on the WACF’s
Watershed Task Force studying the impact of runoff into Wawasee. We
endorse sewerization. We assist several groups studying Zebra Mussels
in Wawasee and other area lakes. We communicate with folks on other
lakes.
Our June Board Meeting is
traditionally open to the general public for sharing of mutual goals.
We provide family gathering
events such as our Members’ Annual Meeting. A highlight of many family
summers is WPOA’s Independence Weekend Fireworks.
We’re volunteer directors who
live in your neighborhoods. We depend on your input to guide us. We
reach deeply into our roots through the WawaPeers group of former
officers and directors. We look to the future to better prepare for
its inevitable arrival.
