MUSEUM
Located in the Syracuse Community Center, across from Lakeside Park on
Syracuse Lake, the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum, offers
residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about this
magnificent area and the individuals and institutions that have shaped
it. If you haven't been in, please plan to do so. And even if you
have, it is worth another visit as there is always something new to
see.
The Museum is open
Wednesday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. in the summer and Thursday
and Friday from 1-5 p.m. and by appointment (Call 457-3599). Admission
is free, although donations are always welcome. In addition, the
Museum offers programs on topics of interest. Please check with Museum
for information on current programs or refer to the Community Center
Events published in the Mail Journal.
MEMBERSHIP
Everyone is
invited to become a member of the Museum. Membership entitles you to
receive the Museum newsletter, advance information of Museum
happenings, discounts on Museum programs, and the knowledge that you
are helping the Museum carry out its mission. The Museum receives no
tax revenues but rather relies on memberships, gifts from generous
friends, and fund=raising activities such as historical cruises and
the antique show & sale. The Museum offers individual memberships at
$20 annually, family memberships at $30 annually, Corporate
memberships at $100 annually, and lifetime memberships at $150 per
person. Lifetime memberships include a copy of Early Wawasee Days
by Eli Lilly.
HISTORIC CRUISES
The Museum is
again offering historical cruises of Lake Wawasee on the S.S. Lilly
Pad. As passenger cruise the shoreline, Margaret Appenzeller (Museum
Board member and lifelong resident of the Lake) shares information
about the geology, geography and history of Lake Wawasee and also
provides insight about the individuals and institutions that have
shaped its history. Cruises depart from the Frog Tavern at 12:30 p.m.
on Sunday, July 17, August 14, and September 4. Tickets are $30 per
person with brunch on the air conditioned, lower deck and $15 per
person without brunch on the open, upper deck. A cash is available on
both decks. Advance reservations are required. These cruises sell out
quickly so please call Harry Appenzeller at 574-457-3664 to make
reservations.
