Chautauqua committee unveils new Oakwood logo
6/25/2011

A Lot of Interest

NEW LOGO — The new logo showcases the cupola on top of the Academy building on the Oakwood property. Several Chautauqua organizations use a cupola or bell tower as part of their logo.

As negotiations move closer to completion on the sale of Oakwood, there are already signs of its future. The first being a new logo highlighting the cupola over the Academy building.

Ann Strong, chair of the Chautauqua Committee, which has planned several events of Oakwood's "Prologue Year," explained there are three cupola's on the Oakwood property: on the chapel, on the hotel and on the Academy building.

She selected the Academy's cupola since it was a little more unique and not as traditional as the other two. "I like the idea it shows a stable location," she said.

She also liked the idea of putting two Indian words together, Chautauqua and Wawasee, which helps identify where the chautauqua programming takes place, as does having Syracuse, Indiana, under the graphic.

Strong took a photo of the cupola and played around with it on her computer. Then Larry Siegel, a committee member, had a part-time employee who was a graphic artist take what Strong presented and do an artist's rendering. "Most Chautauqua logos are similar in that they have a cupola or bell tower," Siegel said.

The logo was completed in time to be used on the Flotilla Race T-shirts as the Chautauqua Committee is one of this year's race sponsors. The logo is also being featured on local billboards and with Buckingham's logo on luncheon bags that were passed out at the Wawasee Property Owners Breakfast. Strong will also be passing them out at the Wawasee Kiwanis meeting this Saturday when she is the presenter.

Strong said so far the new logo has been well received in the community as well as by the marketing company.
