BOATING LAWS IN INDIANA

Under Indiana law, it is illegal to:

  • Operate a boat while your blood-alcohol level is 0.08 or above.
  • Ride on a personal watercraft and not wear a life jacket.
  • Tow a water skier without having a second person in the boat. Operate a boat at speeds of more than 10 mph between sunset and sunrise.
  • Fail to report a boating accident that results in injury.

COST OF BOATING VIOLATIONS
Fines for breaking boating laws range from $90 to $255. Here is a sample of fines:

  • $255: Not having enough life jackets on board.
  • $155: Operating a boat with a person on the bow.
  • $125: Littering
  • $105: Failure to have boat registration numbers displayed
  • $ 90: Not having your fishing or hunting license with you.
